Your DNA results are ready and you want to open them
Where can I see my DNA results in my MyHeritage account?
Where can I see my DNA results in my MyHeritage account?
MyHeritage emails you when your DNA results are ready, and you see them online in your MyHeritage account. This section explains how you receive your DNA results, how to open them, and what each part of your DNA results shows.
💡 Note: If another MyHeritage user manages your DNA kit, ask them to invite you to view your results. For the steps, see: I activated someone else's DNA kit. How can they view their results? If the DNA results belong to a child, see the section "If the DNA results belong to a child under 18" below.
How you receive your DNA results
When your MyHeritage DNA results are ready, the DNA Manager and the person the DNA kit is assigned to (if they're different people) each receive an email at their registered email address. The email includes a link to the DNA results online.
MyHeritage doesn't send a copy of your DNA results by mail. Your results change when MyHeritage improves its DNA matching technology, adds new ethnicities and develops new features. Online results show these updates as soon as they are made, while a copy sent by mail would become outdated.
Your DNA results are available online only, but you can still share and print them:
Share with a collaborator: How can I share DNA results with a collaborator?
Share your Ethnicity Estimate: How can I share my Ethnicity Estimate results?
Print your Ethnicity Estimate: How can I print my Ethnicity Estimate?
How to open your DNA results
You can open your MyHeritage DNA results in the following ways, depending on the device you're using:
🌐 On the desktop and mobile web
🌐 On the desktop and mobile web

Your DNA results open with a tab for each type of result. You can also open a specific result, such as the Ethnicity Estimate or Y-DNA, by selecting it from the same drop-down menu.
📱 On the mobile app
📱 On the mobile app
You can open your DNA results in two ways on the MyHeritage mobile app:
Option 1: Tap the DNA icon at the bottom of the screen, then select the DNA result you want to open on the next screen.
Option 2: Tap the four squares icon in the top left corner to open the main menu, tap "DNA", then select the DNA result you want to open.

If you manage more than one DNA kit
The name of the person whose DNA results you are viewing is at the top of the page. As you move between the tabs, you always see the results of the same person. To switch to another person, click the arrow next to "This is you" near the name and select the person from the list.
For more about managing several DNA kits, see: How can I manage several DNA kits?
If the DNA results belong to a child under 18
To comply with privacy laws, a child's MyHeritage DNA results must be managed by an adult. As a parent or legal guardian, you activate the DNA kit for your child on your own MyHeritage account and see the DNA results there. MyHeritage may ask you for written confirmation that you're the child's legal guardian.
If your child activated the DNA kit on their own MyHeritage account, the DNA results aren't displayed, for privacy reasons. DNA results can't be moved from one account to another, so contact MyHeritage to set this up. On the Contact Us page, select the category "DNA" > "Managing DNA kits".
MyHeritage DNA Health is only for adults aged 18 and over, so you can't buy, activate or view Health reports for a child. For more details, see: Accessing DNA results for a child or minor
What each DNA results tab shows
Your MyHeritage DNA results have seven tabs. Each type of DNA result has its own articles with more details:
"Overview": A summary of your Ethnicity Estimate and your DNA Matches, with charts of your DNA Matches by relationship and by country of residence.
"Ethnicity Estimate": The regions your ancestors came from, shown as percentages and on an interactive map, plus your Genetic Groups. See:
"DNA Matches": The people who share DNA with you, which helps you find relatives and common ancestors. See:
"Ancient Origins": How your DNA compares with ancient populations, going back up to 10,000 years. See:
"DNA Tools": Advanced tools for working with your DNA Matches, such as the Chromosome Browser and AutoClusters. See:
"Traits": Reports about everyday traits, such as food preferences, sleep habits and fitness. The reports are for information and entertainment only, and they aren't medical advice. See:
"Y-DNA": Your paternal haplogroup and your direct paternal line. Y-DNA is available for eligible male DNA kits. See:
Some DNA results need a MyHeritage plan or a purchase. If you can't see one of these results, see "Where did my DNA results go?" below.
You had DNA results before and can't find them now
Where did my DNA results go?
Where did my DNA results go?
If you had MyHeritage DNA results and can't find them now, the most common reasons are that you're viewing another person's results, you're logged in to a different MyHeritage account, your plan or purchase doesn’t include the result or you haven’t generated it yet, or the DNA kit was deleted or unlinked from your family tree. Check each reason below.
Check that you're viewing the right person
If you manage more than one DNA kit, you might be viewing the DNA results of another person. Click the arrow next to "This is you" near the name at the top of the DNA results page and select the person whose DNA results you want to see.
Check that you're logged in to the right MyHeritage account
If you have more than one MyHeritage account, your DNA results might be in a different account from the one you're logged in to. To find the right account:
Search all your email inboxes, including your spam and junk folders, for the email MyHeritage sent when your DNA results were ready. The email is titled "MyHeritage DNA results for [Name] are ready (kit number MH-XXXXXX)".
Check which email address received that email. Then log in to MyHeritage with that email address.
The DNA Manager and the person the DNA kit is assigned to (if they're different people) each receive this email. The person who activates a DNA kit becomes its DNA Manager, even if someone else bought the kit. If someone else manages your DNA kit, ask them to check their inbox too.
For privacy reasons, DNA results can't be moved from one MyHeritage account to another. You need to log in to the account that has your DNA results. See: How can I manage several DNA kits?
If you can't find the email or your account, see: I can't find my account
Check whether the result is included in your plan or purchase, and whether you generated it
Some DNA results are included only with certain plans or after a purchase, and some you need to generate yourself. A plan counts if you have it, or if the person who manages your DNA kit or the person it's assigned to has it. If one specific result is missing, check the following:
Ancient Origins: Included with the Complete Plan or Omni Plan. You choose a represented origin and generate your reports yourself. See:
Y-DNA: Included with the Complete Plan or Omni Plan, and available only for eligible male DNA kits. The first time you open the "Y-DNA" tab, you click "Generate Y-DNA results" and give your consent. See:
Traits: You need to buy the DNA Traits for each DNA kit. After the purchase, you click "Generate Trait Reports" and give your consent. New traits that are added later need a DNA Traits subscription. See:
Advanced DNA Matches features, such as AutoClusters and the family trees of your DNA Matches: Included with a Premium, PremiumPlus, Complete or Omni subscription. See:
To compare all plans, see: What Types of Subscriptions Does MyHeritage Offer?
Check whether your DNA kit was deleted or unlinked from your family tree
Your MyHeritage DNA results are removed when the DNA file for your DNA kit is deleted. The DNA file can be deleted by the person who manages the DNA kit and by the person the DNA kit is assigned to. If you're only the person the DNA kit is assigned to, the manager of the DNA kit might have deleted it. Before a DNA file is deleted, the person deleting it is warned that this can't be undone and has to confirm.
Deleting a DNA file also removes the DNA Matches and the Ethnicity Estimate for that DNA kit. None of them can be recovered. For details, see: How can I delete my DNA file?
If the MyHeritage account that manages the DNA kit was deleted, the DNA kit and its DNA results were deleted with it. DNA kits that hadn't been activated yet, such as unused gift kits, aren't affected and can still be activated. See: How do I delete my account on MyHeritage?
Deleting a family tree, or the family site the tree is in, doesn't delete the DNA kit or its DNA data. It removes the link between the DNA kit and the person in the tree, so the DNA kit is no longer assigned to anyone. To link the DNA kit to the right person again, see: How do I assign a DNA kit to someone else?
You can't reassign a MyHeritage DNA Health kit or a DNA kit with a Health upgrade; in that case, contact Support.
You sent your DNA sample to the lab and your DNA results aren't ready yet
Why are my DNA results not ready yet?
Why are my DNA results not ready yet?
If you sent your DNA sample to the MyHeritage lab and your DNA results aren't ready yet, the following causes might delay the processing of your DNA kit. First, check where your DNA kit is, because each stage has its own article with the usual times:
If you're still waiting for the DNA kit itself: Where is my DNA kit?
If your DNA sample is on its way to the lab: Has my DNA sample arrived at the lab?
If your DNA kit shows as "Received at the lab": How long will it take until I get DNA test results?
Your DNA results might also be ready already, but in a different MyHeritage account. See the "Where did my DNA results go?" section earlier in this article. If your Y-DNA results aren't showing or aren't ready, see: How do I access and use my Y-DNA results on MyHeritage?
DNA kit not activated
If the MyHeritage lab received your DNA kit but you haven't activated it in your MyHeritage account, the lab can't analyze your DNA sample. Analysis can start only after you complete the activation. MyHeritage sends you an email about this, titled "[Name] complete your MyHeritage DNA kit activation (Kit MH-XXXXXX)".
To activate your DNA kit:
Log in to your MyHeritage account.
Complete the activation process. See: How do I activate my DNA kit?
For a MyHeritage DNA 360° kit, see: How do I activate my MyHeritage DNA 360° kit? If you can't activate your DNA kit, see: What should I do if I can't activate a DNA kit?
After you complete the activation, the lab can analyze your DNA sample. If your DNA kit reaches the lab before you activate it:
Processing doesn't start until the activation is complete.
The DNA kit loses its place in the processing queue, which is based on the date the kit arrived at the lab.
After you activate it, the DNA kit goes to the back of the queue, not back to its original place.
To get the fastest processing, always activate your DNA kit before you send it to the lab.
DNA sample can't be analyzed
If the lab can't analyze your DNA sample, you receive an email from MyHeritage about a free replacement DNA kit. This can happen, for example, when the sample doesn't meet MyHeritage's quality requirements or when there's a lab error. The subject of the email starts with "Oops, we were unable to process" and includes your DNA kit number.
What you need to do depends on the email. If MyHeritage needs something from you to send the replacement DNA kit, such as your shipping address, the email says what's needed and includes a link where you can provide it. If the email doesn't ask for anything, you don't need to do anything.
When you provide your new sample, follow the sample collection instructions carefully. See: How do I collect my DNA sample?
If you collect the new sample incorrectly and it can't be used, you need to restart the whole process with another DNA kit, which delays your results further.
Gender in your MyHeritage profile doesn't match your DNA sample
As part of its quality control, the MyHeritage lab checks that the gender in the profile of the person who took the DNA test matches the biological sex shown by the DNA sample. This check prevents DNA kit mix-ups, which can happen easily in shared households. Until the information matches, your DNA results aren't displayed and the analysis can't continue. For more information, see: Why am I receiving a message that there is a problem with the gender reported for my sample?
The fastest way to fix this depends on your situation:
If the DNA kit is assigned to the wrong person, for example because you assigned a family member's DNA kit to your own profile by mistake: Assign the DNA kit to the person who gave the sample, and check that the gender in that person's profile is correct. If it isn't correct, the message appears again. See:
Note: You can't reassign a MyHeritage DNA Health kit or a DNA kit with a Health upgrade; in that case, contact Support.
If the person who gave the sample doesn't have their own MyHeritage account: Check that the gender in their profile in your family tree is correct. See: How do I edit a person's details on my online family tree?
If the DNA kit is assigned to you and you're transgender: Update your profile information to show your biological sex. After you update it, the analysis resumes automatically in a couple of weeks.
If the DNA kit is assigned to a transgender person in your family tree and you manage their DNA kit: Update their profile card in your tree to show their biological sex. The analysis resumes in a couple of weeks.
If there's a medical reason, such as Turner syndrome or Klinefelter syndrome: Contact Support and include the medical or biological sex information and your DNA kit number, so MyHeritage can ask the lab to skip this part of the quality control and resume the analysis.
Gender in your health questionnaire doesn't match your DNA sample
If the gender in your health questionnaire doesn't match the biological sex from birth shown by your DNA sample, MyHeritage sends you an email titled "MyHeritage DNA kit (MH-XXXXXX) - gender information needed".
To fix this:
Contact Support and ask MyHeritage to reset your health questionnaire.
After MyHeritage resets the questionnaire, fill it out again and enter the biological sex from birth.
