How can I purchase DNA Traits?

Learn how to purchase MyHeritage DNA Traits to uncover your genetic reports for health and appearance. Upgrade your existing DNA results in just a few steps.

MyHeritage DNA Traits is a digital feature that provides personalized insights based on your DNA data. After purchasing the feature, you must manually generate the reports and provide consent for data processing.

You can access Traits in the following ways, depending on the device you're using:

🌐 On the desktop and mobile web

  1. Log in to your MyHeritage account on the web.

  2. Select "Traits" from the DNA menu.

    • This takes you to the main Traits page, where you can learn all about the DNA Traits product.

  3. Purchase the feature:

    • Click "Unlock your Trait reports". Once you complete your purchase, you'll be sent back to the main Traits page.

  4. Generate the reports:

    • Click "Generate Trait Reports" (indicated below in red). If prompted, provide consent for DNA data processing. This step is mandatory to proceed with generating the report.

📱 On the mobile app

  1. Open the MyHeritage app.

  2. Access the Traits section:

    • Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-left corner.

    • Select "DNA" and then "Traits".

  3. Generate the reports:

    • Tap "Generate Trait Reports" and provide consent as prompted.

  4. Wait for the reports to be generated:

    • You will receive an email notification when the reports are ready.

  5. View your reports:

    • Open the Traits section in the app to explore your results.


What Happens If I Don’t See the Option to Generate the Report?

  • Ensure you are logged into the account associated with the DNA kit.

  • Check if you have already provided consent for DNA data processing. If not, you will be prompted to do so during the report generation process. If you manage multiple DNA kits, ensure you select the correct kit associated with your Traits purchase.


Notifications and Timelines

  • After generating the report, you will receive an email notification once it is ready to view.

  • The report will appear in the "Traits" section of your DNA area in your MyHeritage account. If you do not see the reports after 24 hours, check your email for notifications or revisit the Traits section.


Accessing Your DNA Traits Results

Once your DNA Traits report is ready, you can view it directly in your MyHeritage account:

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Navigate to the "DNA" section and select "Traits".

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to access the detailed Traits report for your DNA kit.

  4. Explore your personalized trait cards, categorized and color-coded for easy interpretation.


Why Didn’t I Receive My DNA Traits Results Immediately After Payment?

  • DNA Traits reports are only available after the DNA results for your kit have been processed. Ensure that your DNA kit is valid and associated with your account.

  • If you have already purchased DNA Traits, follow the steps above to manually generate the report.


Important Information about the purchase of DNA Traits

  • Consent Required: To generate your Trait reports, you must consent to the processing of your DNA data.

  • Report Availability: The reports will typically be ready much sooner, but may take up to 24 hours. You will receive an email notification as soon as they are available.

  • Multiple Kits: If you manage more than one DNA kit, a separate upgrade purchase is required for each kit. If you upgrade a kit you manage for another MyHeritage member, both you and the test-taker will be able to view the reports.

  • DNA Uploads: You can upgrade to receive Trait reports even if you previously uploaded your DNA data from Ancestry, 23andMe, or FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA).

  • Subscription for Additional Traits: Access to newly released traits requires a subscription, which applies account-wide to all kits with the Traits upgrade.
