How do I activate my MyHeritage DNA 360° kit?

Use this article to activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit, step by step.

⚠️ Activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit before sending it to the lab:

The analysis of your sample cannot begin until activation is complete. If your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit arrives at the lab without being activated, the processing of your sample is on hold until the activation is complete.

How do I activate my MyHeritage DNA kit?

Before you activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit

Activating your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit has three parts:

Consent screens
A short personal questionnaire
A family health questionnaire

Your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit is only activated at the very end, when you click "Activate and Continue" after the family health questionnaire.

Before you start, check these points:

Your activation code: Find the activation code on the side of your kit box, vial or on your activation card.
Your age: You need to be 18 or older to take the MyHeritage DNA 360° test.
Your own account: The person taking the test activates the MyHeritage DNA 360° kit on their own MyHeritage account. If someone else bought the kit for you, you can still activate it on your own account.
One kit per account: Each MyHeritage account can have only one activated MyHeritage DNA 360° kit.
Your device: Activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit on the MyHeritage website, on a computer or in a mobile browser. You can't activate it in the MyHeritage app.

How to activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit

Step 1 — Log in to your own MyHeritage account

To activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit, log in to your own MyHeritage account, the account of the person taking the test. If you don't have an account yet, create a free MyHeritage account first. You may be asked to re-enter your password to confirm it's you.

Step 2 — Enter your activation code

Enter the activation code from the side of your MyHeritage DNA 360° box, vial or from your activation card. Check the code carefully before you continue.

Step 3 — Click "Continue"

Click "Continue" to move on to the MyHeritage DNA 360° consent screens.

Step 4 — Review and accept the consent screens

Next, you'll go through the MyHeritage DNA 360° consent screens. Some consents are required, and some are optional choices:

The MyHeritage Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy (required)
In the United States only: The consent and terms of PWNHealth, the independent physician network (required)
Consent for MyHeritage to process your genetic data (required)
Whether to enable DNA Matches
Whether to let your DNA Matches view and download the DNA segments you share
Whether to take part in the MyHeritage DNA Research Project
Whether to share your deidentified genetic data with trusted academic institutions and pharmaceutical research partners
In the United States only: Whether research partners may match your deidentified genetic data with electronic health records. This choice appears only if you agree to share your data with research partners.
Whether you'd like to be contacted about research opportunities, such as studies or clinical trials.

Taking part in research is voluntary. You'll receive your MyHeritage DNA 360° results whatever you choose, and you can change your optional choices at any time. See: What are the privacy options for my DNA data?

Step 5 — Review your choices and click "Continue"

You'll see a summary of your consent choices. If everything looks right, click "Continue" to move on to your personal questionnaire. This doesn't activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit yet.

Step 6 — Complete your personal questionnaire

In the MyHeritage DNA 360° personal questionnaire, you'll answer a short set of questions about yourself. Please answer as accurately as you can:

Full name (United States only)
Sex
Date of birth
Country, state or region, and address
Phone number
How much genetic health information you'd like to receive
Ethnicity

💡If you stop partway through the MyHeritage DNA 360° questionnaires, your answers are saved, and you can continue where you left off.

Step 7 — Complete the family health questionnaire and activate your kit

Next, you'll answer a short set of yes/no questions about health conditions that run in your family.

When you're done, click "Activate and Continue". Your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit is activated at this step, and you'll see the instructions for sending your sample back.

If you stopped before this step, your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit isn't activated yet.

What happens after you activate your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit?

Once your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit is activated, send your sample back to the lab. For your MyHeritage DNA 360° kit the return envelope in your kit is prepaid, so you don't need to pay for postage. See: How do I ship back my MyHeritage DNA 360° sample and to which address?

⚠️ Activate before sending your sample: The lab can't begin processing a sample until its kit is activated, so finish all seven steps before you mail it back.

You'll receive your MyHeritage DNA 360° results 6–8 weeks after the lab receives your sample. We'll email you when your results are ready.
