The DNA data and DNA Matches privacy settings can only be controlled by the person who uploaded the DNA data to MyHeritage, or who manages (activated) the MyHeritage DNA kit.
The privacy settings are found in the DNA Preferences section of your family site:
1. Log in to your family site.
2. Click on your name in the upper right corner of the Home page and go to ‘My Privacy’:
3. On ‘My privacy’ page, click on ‘My DNA preferences’ on the left-hand side:
4. You will find different settings which are enabled by default on your account.
Enable DNA Matching on MyHeritage
By default, DNA Matching is enabled on your family site. If you keep this setting active, the DNA data you have on your site will be matched with other users who have DNA data.
If you don’t want to take part in DNA Matching and wish to disable this setting, uncheck the box 'Enable DNA Matching on MyHeritage'.
Allow DNA Matches to view shared DNA segments and download shared DNA segment data
The default setting allows DNA Matches with your DNA kit, or any of the kit you manage, to view and download information about shared DNA segments. Shared DNA segments may point to a common ancestor and can help identify relationships.
DNA Matches with your DNA kit or any of the kits you manage can view and download information about shared segments. Shared DNA segments are sections of DNA that DNA Matches have in common. They may point to a common ancestor and can help identify relationships.
If you want to prevent other users who share their DNA segments from viewing and downloading the details of shared segments (position and size), please uncheck the box: 'Allow DNA Matches to view shared DNA segments and download shared DNA segment data':
Note: If you disable this setting, your DNA Matches will not be able to view the Chromosome Browser for Shared DNA segments and the Chromosome Browser - One-to-Many for any of the DNA kits that you manage.
Allow MyHeritage users to view DNA badges in the family trees of individuals for whom I manage a DNA kit
By default, a DNA badge appears on the card of a person whose DNA was tested.
If you don't want to allow MyHeritage users to view DNA badges in the family trees of individuals for whom you manage a DNA kit, please uncheck the box: 'Allow MyHeritage users to view DNA badges in the family trees of individuals for whom I manage a DNA kit.'
DNA Informed Consent Agreement
The DNA Informed Consent Agreement allows our Science Team to use the DNA data from the kits you manage in their research. All DNA data used is deidentified and aggregated to protect our users' privacy. If you accept the Informed Consent Agreement, you can change your mind and edit this setting at any time.
Individual Data Sharing Consent
If you activated your DNA kit using the updated activation flow and consented to Individual Data Sharing, you will see this setting here. This option allows MyHeritage to share your deidentified genetic data with trusted academic institutions and pharmaceutical research partners for research purposes.
You can enable or disable this setting at any time. Please note that if you disable Individual Data Sharing, the two settings below will also be turned off automatically.
Matching to Electronic Health Records
This setting is available to users located in the United States only. If enabled, research partners may cross-reference your deidentified DNA data with electronic health records for research purposes.
This setting is only visible if Individual Data Sharing is enabled.
5. Click ‘Save’ to apply the changes.
