Where is my DNA kit?

Waiting for your DNA kit to arrive, or wondering if your sample reached the lab? Find out how to track both directions of your kit’s journey

Whether you're waiting to receive your DNA kit or wondering if your sample has made it to the lab, you're in the right place. Expand the section that applies to your situation below.

I'm waiting to receive my kit from MyHeritage

Your kit is on its way! Delivery times vary depending on your location, shipping method, and local postal service, so it's normal for some kits to take a little longer to arrive than others. If you chose expedited shipping, your kit should generally arrive sooner than with standard shipping.

Tracking your kit:

Shipping companies work with local postal carriers once your package reaches its destination country. To track your kit locally, use the local tracking number listed for your delivery. You can find your tracking information here: How can I track my DNA kit order?

💡 If the tracker shows your kit was shipped but nothing has arrived yet, it's worth checking with your local post office — there are cases where a package is held for collection and hasn't been delivered to your address. Contact your local post office with your tracking number to check.

⚠️ Please note that upon receiving your kit, you may be required to pay additional import taxes or fees, depending on the customs policy of your country. For more information about any duties that may apply, please contact your local Customs and Border Protection office.

If you have not received your kit and need further help, see: What should I do if I didn't receive my DNA kit?

If your kit tracker shows "Delivered" but you don't have it in hand, see: What should I do if my DNA kit is marked as "Delivered" but I haven't received it?

I've sent my sample to the lab and want to know if it arrived

How to check:

You can check whether your sample has been received by the lab by viewing your kit status in your MyHeritage account. Once your sample has been scanned in at the lab, the status will update to “Received at the lab.” You can find your kit status here: How can I track my DNA once it is in the lab?

💡 If the post office tracking shows your sample as delivered, please allow a few extra days — it can take a short while after physical delivery for us to scan and upload the status into our system.

How long does it take?

Most DNA samples arrive at the lab within 1–2 weeks of being posted. However, in some cases — including shipments within the United States — it can take close to a month. If your kit status hasn't updated to "Received at the lab" after a few weeks, please wait an additional 1–2 weeks before following up.

Important things to know about return shipping:

MyHeritage does not handle the return shipping of DNA samples to the lab. Once you have posted your sample, we rely on the postal service to deliver it. If the postal service you chose does not deliver your sample to the lab, please contact us so we can assist you.

⚠️ Do not use a shipping method that requires a signature upon delivery. Our collection centers are P.O. boxes with no staff on site, so signed deliveries cannot be accepted and your sample may not be delivered. For full details on how to ship your sample and where to send it, see: How do I ship back my DNA sample and to which address?

Your privacy is protected throughout:

Rest assured that your privacy is fully protected during the return shipping process. The return envelope bears only a barcode and the laboratory's address — it contains no personal information. At the point of shipping, the barcode is not associated with any personal account or identity, meaning no third party could link the package to you. The connection between the barcode and your identity is only established once your sample has arrived securely at the lab and has been scanned into our system. Until that point, the sample is not attributable to you or to any other person, and the packaging does not contain any personal data.

If there are no updates after a month or more, please contact us and include your kit code(s) and the date you shipped your sample.
