North Dakota, named after the Dakota Sioux, is a landlocked state in the Upper Midwest. It borders Saskatchewan and Manitoba to the north, Minnesota to the east, South Dakota to the south, and Montana to the west. Part of the Great Plains, it features prairies, badlands, and farmland. Bismarck is the capital, and Fargo, the largest city, is rapidly growing, though half the population lives in rural areas.
