Census records in Sweden are an essential resource for genealogical research, providing detailed information on family histories dating back to the 17th century. The first nationwide census was conducted in 1749 and continued regularly, with detailed household examinations serving as an early form of census. Maintained by the Lutheran Church, these records documented names, ages, birthplaces, occupations, and household compositions.

From 1860 onward, official censuses were conducted every ten years. Alongside parish records and population registers, Swedish census data is invaluable for tracing ancestry, migration patterns, and family structures over time.
