📌 Please note: Many members who have trouble logging in actually registered with a different email address, or used a Private Apple ID (@privaterelay.appleid.com) without realizing it. The steps below will help you identify the right login method for your account.
Finding the right login method
We understand it can be frustrating when you cannot access your family history. We understand it can be frustrating when you can't access your family history. Often, the reason your email isn't recognised is because your account is linked to a different address than the one you're currently using. This is very common if you have several email accounts or used a social login button to sign up.
Follow the steps below in order to find your login method.
Step 1 — Check for a Private Apple ID email
Step 1 — Check for a Private Apple ID email
If you used "Sign in with Apple" and chose "Hide My Email", Apple created a unique, random email address just for your MyHeritage account. Because of this, your personal email address will not work on the login page.
To find your Private Relay address:
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap your name.
Select "Sign in with Apple".
Choose MyHeritage from the list — your unique
@privaterelay.appleid.comaddress will be shown there.
💡 Tip: If you signed in with Apple and hid your email, always use the "Continue with Apple" button on the login screen rather than typing an email address manually — Apple handles the authentication automatically.
Step 2 — Search your email inboxes
Step 2 — Search your email inboxes
Search all your email inboxes for a "Welcome to MyHeritage" email or any billing receipts from MyHeritage. The inbox where you find these messages is the one linked to your account — use that email address to log in.
💡 Tip: If you discover you accidentally created a duplicate account with a different email address, please contact our Support team.
Step 3 — Check your saved passwords
Step 3 — Check your saved passwords
Your browser or device may have saved your MyHeritage login details automatically. Check your browser settings (such as Google Chrome or Safari) under "Passwords" and search for "MyHeritage" — this will often show you exactly which email address you used to create your account.
If you have the MyHeritage app installed on your phone, you can also find your registered email in the app:
Log in to the MyHeritage app.
Tap the four squares icon in the top left corner.
Scroll down and tap "My Account" — your registered email address will be displayed there.
Step 4 — Try signing in with the Apple or Google button
Step 4 — Try signing in with the Apple or Google button
Instead of typing your email address, try tapping or clicking "Continue with Apple" or "Continue with Google" on the MyHeritage login page. If you originally joined using one of these accounts, MyHeritage will recognise you and log you in automatically — even if you don't remember which email address is linked.
📌 Please note: If you don't have a MyHeritage account linked to Apple or Google yet, this will show "Finish creating your account" instead of logging you in. If that happens, tap the "x" to close and try the other steps in this article.
Step 5 — Check for Gmail vs Googlemail variations
Step 5 — Check for Gmail vs Googlemail variations
If you use a Google email account and prefer to type your credentials manually, check whether you originally signed up using "@gmail.com" or "@googlemail.com". The MyHeritage login system used to identify these as two distinct accounts when entered manually.
To avoid this issue, use the "Continue with Google" button on the login page — this will recognize your account regardless of which variation you used.
💡 Found your email address but can't access it? If you've identified the email address linked to your account but no longer have access to that inbox, you can recover your account using the self-service Account Recovery Wizard.
