Chile began official civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths in 1885. The Civil Registry was established in 1884, with records starting on January 1, 1885. Prior to this, the Catholic Church maintained records related to baptisms, marriages, and deaths. While records were initially incomplete, full compliance with the law was achieved by 1900.
