Records pertaining to Ukraine's history from 1369 to 1917 are kept by CSHAK. The oldest record is a 1369 certificate from Otto, a Russian praepostor from Pilche.[1] The Kyiv Central Archive was established in 1852 at the University of St. Volodymyr.[2] It eventually obtained funding from the Kyiv Oblast Archive and the Central Revolution Archive in Kharkiv. The KCADA lost two-thirds of its assets when Nazi Germany occupied Ukraine. Before the Soviet assault of Kyiv, just what the Nazis had removed from the city remained.
The archive dates back to 1932, when it was founded as the Kyiv City Archive. It has had its current name since 1980.
