HistoryHistory

The State Archives Of Kyiv Region was established in May 1922 as the Kiev Central Historical Archive. Starting in 1932, it was known as the Kiev Regional Archival Administration's Kiev Regional Historical Archive (and in 1930 it came under the control of the Kiev Regional Administration of the NKVD); starting in 1943, it was known as the Kiev Regional State Archive; starting in 1946, it was under the control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Kiev Regional Administration; and starting in 1957, it was under the control of the Kiev Regional Executive Committee. It was renamed the State Archive of the Kiev Region starting in 1980. The archive featured a Jewish archival section (the Jewish department starting in 1932) from 1928 to 1936, whose job it was to focus on and describe Jewish history-related documents.
