Sami surnames are those carried by the Sami (Sámi, Saami) people an, indigenous people who live in the Sápmi region, which includes the northern regions of Finland, Sweden, Norway, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. They are acknowledged as the sole indigenous group in the European Union and as one of Sweden's national minorities. They have a distinct culture that sets them apart from other Scandinavian ethnic groups, including their language, traditional attire, handicrafts, and music. Their number is believed to be between 80,000 and 100,000.

Like those of other communities, Sami surnames have a long history that is ingrained in their social structures, way of life, and culture. Many Sami families have retained unique surnames inherited from their traditions, especially reindeer herding, place names, and patronymic roots, whereas some Sami people have assimilation-related surnames that are Finnish, Russian, Norwegian or Swedish. The history of Sami surnames is linked to the ancient vocations and nomadic lifestyle of the Sami people.

Western-style surnames were not historically the basis for Sámi naming customs. Rather, they combined the following:

  • Names given
  • Patronymics (e.g., Andersson, Nilsdatter)
  • Clan or locational allusions
  • "Návccat" refers to nicknames or descriptive terms.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, true hereditary surnames proliferated, frequently as a result of initiatives of cultural assimilation and evangelization. Consequently, Sámi surnames nowadays are a combination of surnames imposed or acquired from dominating national cultures, Sámi roots, and translated or modified names. Sámi surnames are incredibly diverse and context-sensitive depending on the country the family lives. Nowadays, clan names are being preserved, traditional naming systems are being revived, and Sámi-language spelling is being incorporated in contemporary Sámi communities.
