Puerto Rico is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea, Commonwealth, and unincorporated territory of the United States. It was a Spanish colony until 1898 when it was acquired by the United States following the Spanish–American War. Puerto Rico attracts a significant amount of tourists due to its natural landscapes, which range from El Yunque tropical rainforest to long beaches, old colonial buildings and massive, centuries-old fortresses dating from the Spanish period.
