Site members

Site members are family members or friends who have been invited to the family site. They have limited privileges but can still contribute content.

By default, site members can:

  • Add content to the site, such as photos.

  • View Smart Matches and Record Matches — but not confirm or reject them.

You can customize what site members are allowed to view and add. To learn more, visit: What privileges do my site members have?

Site managers

Site managers are site members who have been promoted to a higher role. They have significantly more control over the site and its members.

Site managers can:

  • Change the settings in the Site Settings menu.

  • Invite other people to become members of the site.

  • Confirm or reject Smart Matches and Instant Discoveries.

  • Turn off calendar alerts and newsletters for other site members.

  • Set what content other site members can view and add to the site.

  • Change the name of the site or the site URL.

  • Download a GEDCOM file of the family tree(s).

  • Delete a tree from the family site.

  • Promote other site members to become site managers.

  • Use Scribe AI — an AI tool that helps document and expand family stories.

Note: Site managers cannot change the My Privacy settings — only the site owner can do this.

Tip: Assign the site manager role only to people you fully trust, as they will have broad control over your site's content, settings, and membership.
