What’s the difference between a Family site subscription and a Data subscription?

Updated over 5 months ago

At MyHeritage, we offer two complementary services to explore your family history: the Family Site Subscription (Premium and PremiumPlus) and the Data Subscription. Family Site plans provide complete access to MyHeritage's tools for building your family tree, along with advanced DNA-related features. With this plan, you can fully utilize tools like Smart Matches™. On the other hand, the Data Subscription offers unrestricted access to features focused on historical record research, including the record search engine and Record Matches.

For the ultimate genealogical experience, our Complete Plan combines the PremiumPlus Family Site with the Data Plan, giving you full access to all tree-building tools, DNA features, Smart Matches™, plus unrestricted historical record searching and Record Matches in one comprehensive package.

What is a Family Site Subscription?

A Family Site Subscription (Premium or PremiumPlus) focuses on your family tree(s) and genealogy tools. Each family site can have its own subscription. A Premium or PremiumPlus subscription offers features* such as:

  • Enhanced Smart Matching – confirm and reject matches, contact Site Manager, automatic merge

  • Expanded family tree capacity

  • Full access to family tree builder features like Smart Match Merge, All-in-one charts, and interactive maps

  • Advanced DNA features

*Please note that the features mentioned are not exhaustive

What is a Data Subscription?

A Data Subscription is specifically designed for historical record research and applies across your entire account.

For example, it allows you to*:

  • Search historical records (access to billion of historical records in all the collections in the MyHeritage Search Engine)

  • View high-resolution scans of original documents

  • Confirm or reject Record Matches

  • Extract information directly from records to your family tree

  • Save records to individual profile pages

*Please note that the features mentioned are not exhaustive

How do these subscriptions work under one account?

Your MyHeritage account can have:

  • Multiple Family Site Subscriptions (for different family sites)

  • One Data Subscription that covers all your research needs

Do I need both subscriptions?

While your needs may vary based on your research goals, our Complete Subscription offers the best value by combining both services. However:

  • If you're primarily focused on building and connecting your family tree, a Family Site Subscription would meet your basic needs.

  • If you're mainly interested in researching historical records, a Data Subscription would provide that specific functionality.

Most genealogy enthusiasts find that having both capabilities through our Complete Subscription provides the most comprehensive and satisfying experience.

What is the Complete Plan?

The Complete Plan – our research package – combines the PremiumPlus family site (all benefits described above) with the Data subscription and its full access to billions of historical records on MyHeritage, and all Record Matches.

You’ll have access to features* such as :

  • Enhanced Smart Matching – view, confirm and reject Smart Matches, automatic merge;

  • All Record Matches found for your family tree;

  • Unlimited access to Instant Discoveries™ to add entire branches and photos in one click;

  • Access to all the MyHeritage collections in the MyHeritage Search Engine to boost your research;
