Analyzing records
Analyzing records
When you upload a document, MyHeritage Scribe AI transcribes the text, whether handwritten or printed. If it detects that the language is different from yours, it provides a translation according to the language of the site your are on. The translation can be displayed in all of our available languages on the MyHeritage platform. It also identifies key genealogical details such as names, dates, and places, and provides background information about the type of document you have uploaded. If you upload a multi-page letter or record as a single PDF, MyHeritage Scribe AI analyzes the entire document as one contextual unit.
Analyzing historical photos
Analyzing historical photos
For historical photos, the tool examines visual clues such as clothing, hairstyles, objects, architecture, and photographic techniques to estimate when and where the image was taken. It can also describe the scene, identify notable elements, and provide historical context to give you a deeper understanding of your ancestors.
Processing special record types

MyHeritage Scribe AI also features specialized logic for unique genealogical markers.
For Gravestones: MyHeritage Scribe AI transcribes inscriptions and interprets traditional symbols carved into the stone. This helps reveal hidden meanings in the markers of those who came before us. You can use Scribe AI for both uploaded photos and for records already available within the MyHeritage platform.
For Coats of Arms: It provides a formal heraldic description, explains the meaning of symbols and colors, and assesses whether the design follows historical heraldic conventions.
What File Types and Sizes can I upload?
Supported File Types: .jpg, .png, and .pdf.
File Size: Maximum of 10MB.
Multi-Page PDF: Scribe AI can typically process up to 15 pages for multi-page PDFs. Please be aware that this may vary based on file size and content complexity.
What is included in the analysis results?
The results are presented in organized sections. Depending on what you upload to MyHeritage, your report may include:
For Documents: Historical context, extracted names/dates, key findings, full transcriptions, and suggested next steps.
For Photos: A summary of the scene, estimated date and location, specific visual clues, and technical details about the photo medium.
For Coats of Arms: Origins and lineage predictions, technical heraldic descriptions, and an authenticity check.
For Gravestones: Inscription highlights, iconography and symbolism meanings, and predicted cemetery types.
