A family member died recently and I wanted to post obituaries of different persons on his profile (so that interested people can read them in one central place).
Right now I already have an option to write a obituary but only on my own profile page. I'm of the opinion that this should be improved. I don't think that most people are interested to read what that person wrote about a deceased but what everybody wrote about him.
And obituaries should play a big role on an genealogy site because it isn't really interesting when your great-great-great-grandfather was baptized but who he was.
UPDATE: I didn't want to create an extra post but I still wanted to say thank you for showing me two ways for adding obituaries and showing me that this feature hasn't been forgotten.
Hi,I agree with your observations that obituaries are something that our site should support more naturally and we are planning to do that in one of the next revisions of the site.In the meantime, what I can suggest is one of two approaches.1. Each person in the family tree has a page that represents this person with all the details about him/her. In this page, every site member can add a comment and everybody can see everybody else’s comments. This is one possibility for adding obituaries. The drawback to this approach is that these comments do not get added to the news section in the home page of the site, which is something we will fix shortly.2. The other way to add these obituaries is to add them as News articles. You can add a news article at the bottom of the home page of your family site, and then they will always appear there for everyone to see. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages and I agree that none are perfect. We will address this in the future and allow a better way for people to add this information more naturally.Hope this helps,Uri GonenMyHeritage Product Manager
