I am trying to find my grt grandfathers parents. However I keep getting a stop on all my leads as his name was john hurst his father was james both born bolton lancashire. ok the problem is on one census he is listed as born 1843. on another 1847. both have him with his wife and family correct ie catherine wife born 1856 liverpool. they married 1873 wigan. I got his marriage cert to get details for birth cert but on that it says born 1849....help someone am tearing my hair out......on all census till 1901 he and family are there, so dont need census details just what year do i go from to get his birth....he was born bolton he and his dad where coal miners. my email is tarok@blueyonder.co.uk
The confusion is that on all earlier u.k. census records is that they are rounded to the nearest 5 years so go by the birth record. We had the same problem with my husbands great something grandfather
