2001 Ukrainian census (Ukrainian: Перепис населення України 2001) - the first census of the population of independent Ukraine. This census took place on December 5, 2001, in Ukraine. At present, it remains the only census of the population of Ukraine. According to the census, the population of Ukraine in 2001 was 48,457,000 people.[1] This census was conducted by the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine under the jurisdiction of the Government of Ukraine.

According to the 2001 census, representatives of more than 130 nationalities and ethnic groups lived in Ukraine. 37.5 million people (77.8% of the total population) are Ukrainians.[2] Ukrainian is considered the native language of 67.5% of the population, while 29.6% consider Russian their native language and 2.5% consider other languages their native language.
