Galveston was the principal port of entry in Texas, particularly active from the 1840s to the early 1900s. Passenger lists from this Gulf port document the arrival of German, Czech, Polish, and Jewish immigrants, many of whom settled inland in ethnic farming communities. Some records also include arrivals from Mexico and Central America. These manifests are invaluable for researching the state’s diverse immigrant past and frontier settlements.
