Rabbi Nachman bar Simcha of Breslov (Hebrew: נחמן מברסלב) was the founder of the Breslov dynasty of Hasidic Judaism.

Nachman bar Simcha was born in 1772 in the town of Medzhybizh (now in the Khmelnytskyi region of Ukraine) to Rabbi Simcha and his wife Feiga. Nahman is the great-grandson of the founder of Hasidism, Baal Shem Tov (Besht), on Feiga's side.
After marrying at the age of 13, Rabbi Nachman began living in Osyatyn (researchers studying Rabbi Nachman's biography still disagree about where this is located). In 1790, Rabbi Nachman and his wife moved to Medvedivka.
In 1798-1799, Rabbi Nachman travelled to Palestine.
In September 1802, he settled in Bratslav. Around 1807, Nachman fell ill with tuberculosis. Between 1807 and 1808, Rabbi Nachman visited Lemberg.
Rabbi Nachman died on the 18th of Tishrei 5571 according to the Jewish calendar, which corresponds to 16 October 1810. Shortly before his death, he decided to move to Uman, where he was later buried. His burial place has become a place of pilgrimage. It is believed that Rabbi Nachman wished to be buried in Uman, near the place where a large number of Jewish martyrs, victims of the Koliivshchyna, were buried.
