Prince Edward Island(PEI) began formal birth registration in 1906, though earlier records were documented by churches, particularly Anglican, Catholic, and Presbyterian parishes. As one of Canada’s earliest European settlements, PEI has a rich genealogical history tied to French Acadians, Scottish, Irish, and English immigrants who arrived in the 18th and 19th centuries. The province played a significant role in the Acadian Expulsion of the 1700s, which affected many family histories. The PEI Vital Statistics office maintains modern birth records, while the Public Archives and Records Office preserves older church and census records, making the province an important resource for genealogical research.
