Jamaica began formal birth registration in 1878 under British colonial rule. Before this, many births were recorded in church registers, particularly by Anglican, Methodist, and Baptist congregations.
Today, the Registrar Generales Department (RGD) maintains birth records. Earlier records often require searching through parish archives or private collections.
