Portal pages are the main gate for users to understand the content of the wiki in context. In this help article we will show how to create and use them
The portal page structure
The portal different parts:
- Featured image
- Description
- Link section - links to pages directly under the category of the portal. This section is created automatically.
- Subcategories section - Links to the subcategoris inside the portal categories and a dropdown which shows the pages in these categories This section is created automatically.
- Sub-portal section - the portal can show more sub issues in the same structure as above (Image+description+links).
How to create a portal page
In the right sidebar you will see the create button that will open the create page modal. Please choose a name that is the exact name of the portal category (i.e. - for Category:DNA you should write "DNA"). The page will be created in the portal namespace (i.e: Portal:DNA).
The form will show you 3 fields:
Image field
The uploaded image will be shown floating to the right. You can drop, upload or choose a file to be shown here.
Description field
Add here a description of the topic. Please try to make it unique and don't copy it from other places in the wiki.
Category field
The category field will control the parent category of the top (don't add the categoy of the portal but the parent one if exists - controls the breadcrumbs).
What are portal sections and how should we use them?
You can add more section with the Add more button. You will need to add the section title. If a portal with the same name exists the description and images will be pulled from there. You can overide this text when editing the page.
How does the connection to the wiki breadcrumbs work?
If a portal in a specific category topic exists it will be the first to be shown in the breadrubms. If not, a category page with the same name will be shown.
