Correctional labour camp - (Russian: Исправительно-трудовой лагерь (ИТЛ), Ukrainian: Виправно-трудовий табір (ВТТ)) - in the Soviet Union, one of the places where convicts served their sentences was forced labour camps. The system of correctional labour camps was one of the forms of political repression during the Soviet period, especially during the Great Terror.
The system of correctional labour camps was established by a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated 11 July 1929 "On the use of labour by criminal convicts".[1]
