About Paul Solarz
Paul is a retired 4th and 5th grade teacher from Arlington Heights, Illinois, known for his passionate approach to creating dynamic classrooms that empower students through collaborative, student-centered learning. Paul is the acclaimed author of two influential books for educators. His first book, "Learn Like a PIRATE: Empower Your Students to Collaborate, Lead, and Succeed!", showcases his methods for fostering student agency and shared classroom ownership. His latest release, "Optimized Learning: 180 Mini-Lessons to Transform Today's Students into Confident, Capable, and Collaborative Self-Directed Learners," focuses on developing students' independent thinking, decision-making skills, and intrinsic motivation. Paul's accomplishments in education have been widely recognized, including being named a Global Teacher Prize Finalist, a Qudwa Fellow, Illinois Educator of the Year, and a Betty Van Andel Teacher of Excellence. Outside of education, Paul is an avid genealogist who spends much of his free time researching his family history and genetic origins.
