About Jane Halloran Ryan
Jane Halloran Ryan is of Irish descent with ancestral connections from Cork, Sligo, Clare and Antrim. She graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Accounting and came to Ireland tto reside where she qualified as a Solicitor in 1997.
Jane has always had a keen interest in genealogy , local history and family history since high school and this interest was shared with her mother and her grandmother who gave her invaluable assistance in getting started researching long before the arrival of the internet. As a result, her enjoyment in listening and preserving her family stories has served her well in her own research and has given her an added appreciation of the family folklore and oral history that all families share.
In addition, Jane has been involved in the Ireland Reaching Out project since 2011. Jane was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013 on behalf of Ireland Reaching Out for her efforts on behalf of the local community and in conjunction with the local Tulla committee in reaching out to the diaspora.
Jane completed her M.A. in Local History at University of Limerick (2017) and has recently submitted and defended her PhD thesis successfully (2023). Her PhD thesis was entitled “Networks of Necessity: the Clunes, Clare and Connecticut Connections”. She is an award recipient of a Hibernian Research award from the Cushwa Centre at University of Notre Dame, as well as a grant recipient for further research from the Irish Association of Professional Historians. Jane lives in Ireland with her family.
