Gerhardt Web Site

My name is Hans Gerhardt and I am the Site manager of this site. This site was created using MyHeritage.com. This system allows anyone to create a site for their family and even publish their family tree on the Internet.I have specially created this website to update my first family tree made in 1990, thus before the internet hype. This tree concerns the family name Gerhard (originating from Steinbach (Hessen) close to Giessen north of Frankfurt/Main-Germany). After my grand-grand-grand father Ludwich Helfrich (Lodewijk) arrived in 1784 in the Netherlands the family name changed into Gerhardt  and later on a branch with the surname Gerharts started. Please note that all families with the name of Gerhard/Gerhardt/Gerharts are NOT by definition part of this family tree. Gerhard (and Gerhardt) are common names and also used as first name. You will even find Von Gerhardt, but this nobel name does not belong to our tree and we do not have a family arms. Ancestors back to the period 1550-1800 were mayor, alderman, and churchwarden, but were rich with what they had. Napoleon and a bad economic situation forced our family members with relatives to flee from Steinbach to Russia/Astrahan, Hungary, the Netherlands and USA.If you have any comments or feedback about this site, please click here to contact me.
