Davey-Bovingdon Tree

Welcome to Davey-Bovingdon Tree

My name is Sharon and I am the Site manager of this site. This is a little background on the Soo for all of us before we begin.French explorers on Lake Superior predates the landing of the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock in 1620.  Only a decade after the initial french settlement at Quebec in 1608 the french reached the waters of Lake Superior.  By 1650, the french were engaged in mapping the midwives.  They reached the upper Mississippi River int he mid-1670's and claimed the territory for King Louis XIV.Etienne Brule is credited with the european discovery of Lake Superior before 1620.  He may have travelled on the lake as far west as Isle Royale.  Raymbault visited the St. Mary's River in 1641, learning about the Dakota(Sioux) who lived beyond its stores.   A few years later, Groseilliers and Radisson ventured further west.  They wintered near Chequahegon Bay in 1654.  They visited "Head of the Lakes" (present day Duluth) that year and again in 1660.  They were believed to have been the first europeans to travel on Lake Superior.  Groseilliers and Radisson were accompanied on their return voyages by flotillas of Indian canoes packed with fur. My Mother(Birdie) told me that when her grandfather came here from England they had to get water from the river.  He said he remember bending down with the buckets to get water and there being Indians in the bushes watching them while they took the water..........I thought that was awesome. Some days I wish I would have listened more to my grandparents and my parents about stories of old days and what they did during their time.  It seemed so simple then compared to now adays.  I miss my grandparents very very much and I try to visit when I can.  I have put special flowers on their graves and as a promise to myself I will keep on doing it no matter what.  I loved them dearly and should have taken more time to listen or be with them.  Family is very important in life and should never be taken for granted.  They are your family....they love you unconditionally no matter what. Thanks for reading hope you enjoy the tree and if you have any more information let me know please feel free to email me at sharon_35@msn.com
