Woods Web Site

Welcome to Woods Web Site

My name is Kevin Joseph Woods and I am the Webmaster of this site. This site was created using MyHeritage.com. This is a great system that allows anyone like you and me to create a site for their family and even publish their family tree on the Internet. The first Woods entered is James who was a Blacksmith .He made pikes in the rebellion of 1798.He was born in The Parish of Lordship near Sleanaglough. He was captured by the Redcoats on the Cooley mountains above Glenmore at a place called "Pol Holla" gaelic for "The hole in the hollow" a small cave where he lived to avoid capture.I have visited it many times. He was taken to Carlingford where he was tied behind a cart and brought to Dundalk .At Ballymascanlon bridge he was whipped from there till he collapsed a quarter of a mile from Dundalk Bridge. He was untied and handed over half dead to his family. He lived till about 1820 and is buried in Newtown Cemetery. My father Peter Woods 1909-1988 ,State Solicitor for Louth began this tree many years ago on sheets of A4 paper that would cover the kitchen floor .I have had the good fortune to live in an era of computor technology which allows us all to share in the work he began.I would like you to add in any of your family that I have omitted.Just remember that if you include  dates, that you write them in the American format .ie Month,Day Year.Don't worry about making a mess of it.Have a go. I can correct any mistakes .I am notified of any changes. The site was last updated on June 3 2024, and it currently has 23 registered member(s).
