Costa Rica, Birth Index, 2011-2015
638,221 records
Index to civil birth records of Costa Rica, created by the civil registry office of the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones, Republica de Costa Rica. The majority of the records date from 2011 to early 2015. Some earlier records are also included. The collection includes records for Costa Rican nationals, whether born within or without the country. The most common countries of foreign births are Nicaragua and Colombia.

Information listed in the index includes: name of child, gender, birth date, birthplace, nationality, parents' names, and reference information for locating the original certificate. The parents' personal ID numbers (número de cédula), may also be given. Since the número de cédula is unique to each individual, this number can be very useful for locating additional records pertaining to each person, or for ordering copies of original certificates. An original certificate will often provide additional details about the birth and more personal information about the parents.
