Does the gender registration during my DNA activation have any impact on my DNA results?

We know that people have different feelings about sharing their personal information with other MyHeritage users, and we respect that.

However, when you register and activate your DNA kit, we will ask for your biological gender along with other information.

We use a quality control check: If our lab results show a different gender than the one you reported (which can happen for transgender individuals), we will send you a notification. This step simply helps us make sure your results are genetically accurate and consistent.

You might also get this message if you have a known genetic condition, such as Turner syndrome (45,X) or Klinefelter syndrome (47,XXY). These conditions can sometimes cause an error during the sample analysis at our lab.

If you get this error message but still want us to continue the analysis, or if you know you have a genetic condition, please contact us! We are happy to help you to:

  • Keep your self-reported gender (if you don't want to share your genetic gender with others).

  • Correctly proceed with the analysis despite the known genetic condition.

To reach out, fill out the contact us form, making sure to include your kit number and whether you have a known genetic condition.
