How do I set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for my MyHeritage account?

If you are setting up the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account, we highly recommend adding your phone number to your family tree profile, as it can help you recover your account if you lose email access or encounter 2FA issues.

To set up Two-Factor Authentication for your MyHeritage account, please follow the steps below:

1. Log in to your MyHeritage account and click on your name at the top-right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will open. Click “Account settings”.

2. Click “Enable Two-Factor Authentication”:

You can receive verification codes in one of two ways: using an authenticator app, or via email. In this article we’ll walk you through the steps for enabling Two-Factor Authentication with email, but the steps are almost identical when setting up Two-Factor Authentication with an authenticator app.

3. Select a method for authentication:

4. To connect your authenticator app, scan the QR code you see in the next window with the app, or type in the code. We recommend using Google Authenticator (downloadable in any app store), where you can tap the plus button at the lower right side of its screen, then select a method for connecting the accounts.

That’s it! Two-Factor Authentication is now enabled. You will receive an email confirming that Two-Factor Authentication was enabled.

The next time you log in to your MyHeritage account, whether on the web or from the mobile app, you’ll need to enter the verification code in addition to your password.

Notes:

You won’t need to enter a verification code every time, only when you log in to MyHeritage from a new device, or periodically

To change your Two-Factor Authentication method from Authenticator app to email or vice versa, you will need to first disable Two-Factor Authentication, and then re-enable it with your preferred method. To disable Two-Factor Authentication, go to “Account settings” and click the “Disable” button below Two-Factor Authentication.
