If you would like to export your family tree via GEDCOM file from Ancestry.com®'s Family Tree Maker® software, please follow these instructions (provided for FTM 2014):
1. Open Family Tree Maker® on your computer.
2. In the upper menu bar, click on the ‘File’ menu and select ‘Export’.
3. In the window that opens click on the drop-down list under ‘Output format’ and select ‘GEDCOM 5.5’ to export your tree to the standard GEDCOM file recognized by most genealogy programs.
4. Select whether you would like to export all people or specific individuals to the GEDCOM file, and select other options on the right side. We recommend that you check all the boxes except 'Privatize living people' which should be unchecked.
5. Click ‘OK’.
A dialogue box will open asking you about Destination and Character set. By default, ‘Other’ and ‘UFT-8’ options are selected respectively (please leave them as is). Click ‘OK’ to select the location you would like to save the file to.
6. Click ‘Save’ to export your tree as a GEDCOM file.
7. The only thing you now have to do is to drag the GEDCOM file into the Media folder that Family Tree Maker® creates by default on your computer.
The Media folder can be found on C:\ Users\ username\Documents\Family Tree Maker.
It usually has the name "<Tree Name> Media", as you can see in the example on the topic 6 above, where we have the "Kennedy Media" folder named after the "Kennedy Family" family tree.
That will guarantee that the photos will be imported in the Family Tree Builder software.
8. Now that you have exported your GEDCOM file, your next step will be to import it into the MyHeritage Family Tree Builder software or the MyHeritage website, using the instructions described in one of the following articles:
