Description Dora Bakoyannis is the incumbent Minister of Foreign affairs of Greece since 2006. She was also the former Mayor of Athens. She is the first woman to hold these positions and as Foreign Minister, this is the highest government position held by a woman in Greece. Born in Athens in 1954, Bakoyannis was the daughter of former Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis. She entered politics after her first husband, Pavlos Bakoyannis, a member of parliament, was assasinated in 1989. She successfully contested his seat and later was re-elected to Parliament. In 2002 she was elected Mayor of Athens and was the incumbent mayor during the 2004 summer olympics. She was the first woman to serve as mayor of a Olympics host city.
