Description Margaret Wallace (nee Crawford) was the mother of William Wallace (c. 1270 – 23 August 1305), a Scottish knight and landowner who is known for leading a resistance during the Wars of Scottish Independence and regarded as a patriot and national hero.  She was the sister of Sir Ronald (Reginald or Ranald) Crawford (c. 1240 – 1297) who was the 4th Sheriff of Ayrshire, Chief of Clan Crawford, and Lord of Loudon Castle.
