MyHeritage has upgraded its DNA testing technology to Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) — the most comprehensive way to read your DNA. Unlike the previous genotyping arrays that analyzed about 700,000 positions in your genome, WGS reads nearly all of it — around 3 billion base pairs. By the end of 2025, all new DNA kits will be processed exclusively using this technology.
This advanced technology provides MyHeritage with much richer genetic information, allowing for more accurate DNA Matches, improved Ethnicity Estimates, and new genealogy features in the future. MyHeritage uses a low-pass sequencing approach with 2x coverage, meaning each position in your genome is read twice on average. Combined with advanced statistical methods, this delivers highly accurate results for genealogical use while keeping the test affordable — and at no extra cost to you.
This upgrade makes MyHeritage the first major consumer DNA testing company to adopt Whole Genome Sequencing at scale, using innovative sequencing technology from Ultima Genomics. All DNA samples continue to be processed by our trusted partner, the Gene by Gene laboratory in Houston, Texas.
The transition to Whole Genome Sequencing is currently underway. Most new DNA kits are already processed with WGS, and by the end of 2025, all MyHeritage DNA tests will be analyzed exclusively using this technology.
As always, MyHeritage remains committed to protecting your privacy. Our DNA testing process continues to follow strict security and confidentiality standards, ensuring your genetic information stays safe and under your control.
