About our family
My parents are both first generation Americans. My father's family , the Leflers and Martins, came from Canada into the US before he was born. Before that they came from England and possibly Germany. Some may have been Tories who fled from the US during the Revolutionary War. My mother's family, the Monniers and Schoolfields, came from France, England, and Germany.
My dad's parents came from English Canada in the latter part of the 1800's, but my maternal grandmother's family came much earlier. My maternal grandfather came over on a boat bringing a load of Jersey cattle to Rushville, Indiana, and came to Texas to be with his maternal uncle. He later brought over his widowed mother and his brothers and sister. Their time frame for entering the US was in the early part of the 1900's.
Missing pieces
I am particularly interested in finding where the Martins on my paternal line lived in England, and who were my dad's paternal greatgrandparents , the Leflers, and where they came from. Were they Tories or did they come from somewhere else?
