"Kiziah Hallmark and G.W. Hallmark were children of Jesse Hallmark and Mary Hallmark, early settlers whose descendants were to later become contributing leaders in a place called Belmont. The Hallmarks may have settled on the Bear Creek flats northeast of present Belmont in the general vicinity of the Byram (Rob Epps) Ford. Jesse Hallmark entered in excess of 1,200 acres of land in and around present Belmont. In later years, he is said to have lived in the vicinity of the present Hopkins property, south of Belmont." Joined the Primitive Baptist Church in Blount County, AL, 1825, ordained a deacon soon after, and lived a worthy and faithful member. His life was crowned with gospel order, and all of those without were constrained to praise him, and while we mourn his loss, we can say that our loss is his eternal gain."
