Parrish/Williams/Folkes/Myers/Sessums Web Site

Welcome to Parrish/Williams/Folkes/Myers/Sessums Web Site

My name is Kit Parrish and I started this site. This Site tries to trace the Parrish and Williams and Folkes and Myers and Sessums Families. The surname Parish (Parrish) appears to have originated from the Norman French name Paris (Parris). The earliest recorded date that the name appears in England is December 16, 1246 when William de Paris, Knight, is listed as a landholder in Buckinghamshire County. On June 24, 1635 an Edward Parish was transported to Virginia, presumably as a headwright, by Adam Thoroughgood who had been in Virginia since at least 1624. Sketchy family records indicate that this Edward Parish was born about 1600 in Yorkshire County, England.  The First Williams in America was Isaac William born 1638 in Roxburry Mass, while his brother John William Roxbury Williams was born in 1635 in Norfolk, England. The First Folkes born in America was born in 1650 in Virginia and his name was Thomas FowkesThe First Myers in America was born of Swiss immigrants and was Peter Myers, born in 1753 in Pennsylvania.  And the First American Sessums was Thomas Sessums, born 1677 in Virginia.Chronological arrivals--1635-Parrish,--- 1638 Williams, ----1650 Folkes, ---1677 Sessums and ---1753 Myers. It appears that the Williams family has Oglala Lakhota heritage, while the Sessums have Choctaw and Cherokee heritage.
