Electoral rolls are the nearest record Australians have to census listings and hence are extremely important to local, social and family historians. This collection provides information on approximately 135,000 electors in Tasmania who were registered to vote on the Commonwealth Roll of 1916. The information recorded includes the person's name, gender, residence, occupation, and polling information (i.e. division, subdivision and roll number).

Compulsory enrolment was introduced for all federal rolls in 1912, so the 1916 roll should reflect the adult population (over 21 years) excluding the foreign and indigenous population. This index includes all electors recorded in the 1916 rolls held by the National Archives of Australia. Of note is that it includes the supplemental rolls, as well as the names of individuals who were removed from the rolls.

Queensland Family History Society Inc. aims to promote the study of family, and local history, genealogy, and heraldry, and to encourage the collection and preservation of records relating to the history of Queensland families. This collection was produced by Queensland Family History Society as a project supported by the Queensland government through its Q150 Community Funding Program. www.qfhs.org.au
