Electoral rolls are the nearest record Australians have to census listings and hence are extremely important to local, social and family historians. This collection provides information on approximately 604,000 electors in Queensland who were registered to vote on the Commonwealth Roll of 1941. The information recorded includes the person's name, gender, residence, occupation, and polling information (i.e. division, subdivision and roll number).

Compulsory enrolment was introduced for all federal rolls from 1911, so the 1941 roll should reflect the adult population (over 21 years) excluding the foreign and indigenous population. Voting in federal elections was compulsory from 1925.

This index includes all electors recorded in the 1941 rolls [source: National Archives of Australia, Series BP94/2, Commonwealth Electoral Rolls for Queensland].

Queensland Family History Society Inc. aims to promote the study of family, and local history, genealogy, and heraldry, and to encourage the collection and preservation of records relating to the history of Queensland families. www.qfhs.org.au
