Family tree Builder is a free program that can be downloaded from our website.
There are added features in Family Tree Builder that are only available for MyHeritage members who have upgraded their family site to Premium or PremiumPlus site plan.
These added features include Smart Match Merge, All-in-one chart, unlimited access to our interactive maps, Timeline and Timebook.

If you are using the basic version of the software and would like to upgrade, click on ‘Premium’ button on the main toolbar to find more information about Premium features available in Family Tree Builder and get an upgrade.
**Please note, Family Tree Builder allows you to add an unlimited number of people to your project, but when you sync the project to your family site you may be asked to upgrade, depending on your family site plan.
How can I create a family tree for free with Family Tree Builder?
Creating your family tree takes just a few minutes. Start building your family tree by using this Step-by-step guide.
Set up the project:
1. Open Family Tree Builder
2. Click on ‘New’ button on the main toolbar:
3. The steps will guide you through naming your family tree, opting to sync it with the online site, and customizing your project's language
4. Click ‘Finish’ to start working with your new project.
Add people to your family tree:
Click ‘Add Person’ in the upper left-hand corner of the Tree View:
Add relevant information about the person. Valuable information to add to a person in a family tree includes vital records (birth, marriage, death), historical documents, and of course photographs.
Next step is to add more people to your family tree. This is easily done by clicking on the empty person cards above or below a person.
