Relationship report display denial,for 3rd ,4th etc.family - Forums

Until yesterday, I was able to check any relationship report, relating to myself and any other family individual,no matter how far away,even 14 steps away showed the relationship connection.Since this morning,I am only able to check a relationship report and as far as 2nd cousins,and that vicinity. As I am doing most of the research in collaboration with my son,this makes things very difficult and poses a major drawback in my research. Is this a temporary problem ? If not how can this be solved for me and anyone elses benefit. ? Await a reply.Thanking you in advance. Toni Ziv

Hi Toni,

Thank you for writing to us.

Let me explain why you can no longer see certain relationships in your tree:

For trees with less than or equal to 5000 people, you can see all relationships.

For trees with over 5000 people and less than 17,000 individuals it is limited:

For direct ancestors/descendants you can see relationships of up to 20 degrees

For non-direct relatives, you can only see the relationships for people that are 2 steps away.

We do apologize for the inconvenience, but this is so that your tree loads quickly, and does not get stuck.

If the tree gets too many people in it, the relationship status goes down like that. I don't know if that's the issue with your tree, but it sounds like it. It's really annoying for me too.

I just tested this myself and the relationship report beautifully (with pictures) and accurately displayed a relationship by marriage in 15 steps. Of course it also works in FTB, but without pictures.

I also just tested a 6th cousin relationship--it works.

Mine used to, but since I now have 10,000 people in my tree, it doesn't anymore. : (

You may be right--I just checked and my family tree has 2,222 (nice number!) people. I wonder at which point the trouble starts?

I've heard it's about 5000. I didn't pay close enough attention.
