Here's a screenshot of the places you can click to view matches on a Smart Match email:
If you have trouble with the links in the email, go to your family site and view the matches there. In order to view the matches on your site, click on Family Tree > Smart Matches.
When I click the "learn more" button, it takes me to the smart matches table listing 18,728 matches, but doesn't show the one I click on. When I click on "view all matches from this family tree online" it takes me to the same place. I've never been able to see the smart match that I get in the email, and I've been using this site for about 15 months. I end up just ignoring those emails, because while they look interesting, they don't do me any good. I also have tried going into My Family Tree Builder, and looking for the person who it says has a new smart match, and I don't see any match.
When the smart matches are made you click on the name of the family that the match is from and it should open the family tree with that name in it.
From there you input the name of the individual (on the left hand side of the page) and it will bring that person up and you can check info against your own family tree info.
Smart Matches allow you to search other trees that may have distant or not so distant relatives that you may not have prior knowledge of.
This summer I used it to match my great-great grandfather's family through his wife 's family. Sometimes it will be the completion of a puzzle of where someone fits into a family or tying up loose ends when putting together Family Trees.
Of course you have the option of not using it- your choice and many times they are not matches in your family. My family background is from Sweden and they use the father's name and use it as the son's surname which complicates finding family.
Give it a try and see if you find a new link in your family.
