How do I keep from having the same person on the family tree twice? My neice married our second cousin (once removed) from my dad's side. How can I do this on the Web Family Tree?
You can do this on the Web Family Tree by creating "facts" under the topic of marriage. Do add this, go to the select individual and view the fact section in the left bar. Please let me know if you need any help with this.
In order to create the relationship between two family members who already exist in the tree, you will want to use the Attach/Detach feature.
The Attach/Detach feature is used anytime you want to build a relationship between two persons who are already in the family tree. For example, if cousins got married, it wouldn't be suitable to create a whole new genealogy card for each one because that means they would be listed in the tree twice.
What you want to do is to create a new type of relationship for them. This is where the Attach/Detach feature is helpful. It lets you draw a connecting line between two people (or erase one). For each TYPE of relationship there is a way to Attach or Detach. For husband and wife this feature is located in the "Spouses" menu. For children it is located in the "Children" menu.
There are several different ways to get to these menus:
A) On the top menu bar under Person -
File/Edit/View/PERSON/Family/Charts.... B) By clicking on the EDIT button onan individual's genealogy card C) By clicking on the EDIT button in the "Family" section. My recommendation when using the Attach/Detach feature isto do it through the MANAGE function (e.g. Manage Spouses or Manage Children). You can always do an Attach/Detach without using this screen, but in the MANAGE screen you can see and adjust ALL details at once which is helpful.
