Shulkin Web Site

Welcome to Shulkin Web Site

Hi! My father Dr. Mark Weiss Shulkin loved his family and loved the Shulkin family genealogy. He died at the age of 89, just a few days before he would turn 90, in August of 2019. I cannot substitute for my father's passion for keeping up the family history but in his memory, and for future generations, I will try to maintain this site. If there are any family members who have an interest in sharing the upkeep of this site, please let me know. I'd be pleased if  you’want to  contact me and share what you know of your family history. My email address is Drshulkin@aol.com.My father (Mark Shulkin) explains how the site works below:At the bottom of this page Family News lists stories about the family and also is a socal networking opportunity. I've included my spouse's  and my mother's families on this page. and you are welcome to do that also. Go to FAMILY TREE and then to PEOPLE to find the alphabetized list of family members that will  guide you to your relattives.  .  Most of the root ancestors emigrated from Russia about the turn of the 19th century and settled in Boston, New York, Cleveland, Chicago. and Soux City. Iowa.  Another branch of family settled in South Africa, at the time of the Boer War, Their name was mistranslated into Wolkin,   Some "trunks" of the  famly tree are  documented in SEARCH FOR THE FAMILY, published   in 1980 and in THE GOLDEN WASHBOARDS,  published in 2008 (still some copies of both available if you contact  me ). Rather than re-publish  updated volumes, this web page seems a good way to   keep track of the new generations. Getting  the family's help in doing so will serve a dual purpose of our keeping in touch with one another..  Recording a family tree is an unfinishable  work in progress jsut as families themselves never finish. In doing it, I do not list adoptions of living persons,  suicides, or negative materiall about tliving persons  in line with my thinking about   privacy and the potentially positive spiritual values of knowing ones's family history..   I've taken the liberty of including some speculative entries on the Shulkin origins. In studying census rcords from the geographic area the Shulkin family came from in the early 1800's, before  surnames were common, there was evidence that one son of a man named Lieb  took the name  Leibowitz (son of Leib) while another took the matronym Schulkin, from Schula's  kind (child).. Some creative reasoning about a rabinical connection  suggests the Shulkins can be traced back to the 1500's. .         This MyHeritage site allows you to add all the relatives you know about (including your in-laws) and it has unlimited space.   It’s a great way to  share and keep up with family news, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. which will be emailed to you regularly.  The page has many fun and useful features though it takes some playing with  to master them.  Please register and enjoy this page and invite other family to register if you know their email addresss, Do that  under the INVITE FAMIL (=/- manually) on the HOME page. ..
