If you are like most people researching your family history in search of your family roots, you want it to be true and factual. The name Burnet from earlier information was recorded from unprofessional sources and based on speculation, most being very much incorrect. Others, not willing to do their own research just copied the same mistakes over and over again. Some sources even say that the surname was officially spelled Burnard, Burnatt, Burnat, Burnette, and other similar names that were never proven. The name Burnet was not found in Scotland until the twelfth century when a French Merchant or Banker (John Burnet) along with a John Frere of Germany representing the Knights Templar who sold goods or financing to William Wallace and Andrew Murray of the army of Scotland.
