Puthenparambil Family

PS Sankaran Achari ( Kunjappy achari) born in 1893 was the  head of the Puthenparambil family. Situated west of Earayil Kadaku in Kottayam district, the house was rich in wooden sculptures on the wall panels with a Padippura and an "Ara & Nira". The landscape had immense flora with variety of plantation. PS Sankaran Achari hailed from Vattakunnel Tharavadu- a family of doyens in Thachusastra, Vastusastra and Astrology. Sankaran Achari  himself  was an expert in all these and hence respected by all renowned families in Kottayam district irrespective of caste and religion. Being a scholar in Sanskrit he had immense knowledge in Purana  and other Epics. He had a versatile style in reciting Ramayana and Bhagavatha.  He started his family life with Nanikutty  from Chakkalayil family in Neendur, Kottayam district in the year 1916. Nanikutty was expert in Anecdotes and Proverbs  with moral values which helped her children to develop their character.  They had 7 Children, 4 daughters - PS Parukutty, PS Penamma, PS Padmini (Thankamma) and PS Leelavathy, 3 sons -PS Sankarankutty, PS Raghavan, PS Sreedharan.  They were fondly called Chakkara Achan and Chakkara Amma by  grand children.  Sankaran Achari was unique in providing education to all children alike when women were generally deprived of education.
