McGlothlin/Skinner Site

My name is Pat McGlothlin and I started this site.Please Note: Any photos of persons who are shown here who remain alive are visible to no one outside our family.Wecome to our family site; as you venture into the family tree - I would recommend the Classic View. It seems much easier to navigate around and see the family.  Calvin Skinner was raised in Licking County Ohio around 1842. He was the son of John Thomas Skinner and Sarah Drumm. I believe Calvin fought in the Civil War for the state of Indiana. He had two brothers who fought there. He married Rebecca Fisher (Becky) in Huntington Indiana. The Fishers were close friends with the Hunts living in the same county. Mr. Hunt help build the Military Road running from St. Louis through the state of Arkansas. He convinced George and Nancy Fisher - Becky's parents to move to Woodruf County Arkansas sometime in around 1860. Becky and Calvin loaded up their wagon and moved with them. Nancy Fisher passed away soon after arriving in Arkansas so George went back to his other daughter in Indiana where six years later he passed away. Calvin and Becky did quite will there along with two of her brothers. They had several children - they will be listed in the family tree. My grandfather George Washington Skinner was born in 1882 and my mother Cynthia Louise Skinner was born in 1923. We have many relatives who still live in Woodruf County. There you will find the names of: Skinner, McGlothlin, Meredith, WigginsAllgood, Creasey, Fisher, Osborn, Gaskin and many more.James McGlothlin was born in Ireland 1830: he and his brother stowed away on a freighter ship and worked their way across the Atlantic. I think thishappened around 1850 as it was the height of the potato famine in Ireland. I first located him in the U.S. in 1862 when he and William McGlothlin joined the Union Army in Macaupin County IL and served the 122nd Illinois Inf Regiment. this Regiment which fought in Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida.William and James completed their three year enlistment and was discharged in 1865. James may have found Nancy Jane while serving in MS as the Regiment was in MS for and extended time. Soon after the war they got married and Sarah C was born in 1868 (I cannot locate who she married). This site was created using MyHeritage.com.
